DECEMBER
Friday 4th 7.15 pm for 7.30 pm INDOOR MEETING Chris Ward "Oman : Land of a Thousand Eagles"

Sunday 6th 9.45 am WILSTONE RESERVOIR (SP905134) and COLLEGE LAKE (BBOWT Reserve with facilities) (SP935139) (joint trip with Oxford RSPB Group). Meet in the Wilstone Reservoir car park off the B489 Aston Clinton to Pitstone road (east of Aylesbury, 1 mile north of the A41/B489 junction). Close views of winter wildfowl, waders and thrushes, plus small scrubland and woodland species.

Wednesday 9th 6.30 for 7 pm CHRISTMAS DINNER at the Windmill Carvery, Asthall (near Burford).

Friday 15th 7.15 pm for 7.30 pm INDOOR MEETING - MEMBERS NIGHT (non members equally welcome)
Bring your slides, memory sticks, photographs and other materials for display or identification. Plus a fiendish quiz.

Sunday 31st 10.30 am VISIT TO OVER NORTON PARK FARM & WALK FARM, OX7 5PX led by Mike Kettlewell to see farmland birds. Meet at the 'Pig Farm' on left off the A3400 by the radio mast about 400m north of the roundabout with the A361 road to Banbury. The farm has been in Stewardship schemes for 15 years to increase biodiversity. The bird feeding programme includes millet year round to help Tree Sparrows and Reed Bunting and from December to May mixed feeding to attract Chaffinches, Yellowhammers, Linnets, Skylarks and Corn Bunting etc. Contact person: Mary Elford 01993 851862 / 07974 773854

Friday 1st 7.15 pm for 7.30 pm INDOOR MEETING Rod D'Ayala "Wild Flowers of the Burren and Aran Islands"

Sunday 3rd 2 pm CIRCULAR WALK for signs of Spring around Chipping Norton. Meet in Worcester Road car park. Map Ref SP 312271. OX7 5LJ.

Sunday 17th 10.30 am NORTH MEADOW, CRICKLADE. An old hay meadow, now a National Nature Reserve and an SSSI with the largest UK population of Snakes Head Fritillaries. The meadow has been managed by residents of Cricklade for hundreds of years through the Court Leet which is still involved in its management. Possible guided walk at 11 am. Tea room open from 10am to 5pm. Car parking in the town, from where the reserve can be reached by public footpaths - about 20 minutes' walk NW of Cricklade town centre. Friday 6th 7.15 pm for 7.30 pm INDOOR MEETING Malcolm Brownsword "Chilterns Wildlife". Please bring plants, books and other items for our usual sale in aid of Club funds.

All indoor meetings are held at the High Street Methodist Church Hall, Witney, usually in the Upper Hall.
All are welcome from 7.15 p.m., and the main meeting will start at 7.30 p.m. Queries should be e-mailed to info@westoxfordshirefieldclub.org, or directed to the Programme Secretary, on 01993 841194.

We regret no dogs are allowed on our walks.

For the walks members are advised to buy either the first two Ordnance Survey maps or the second two in the following list to help in finding the start point of walks.

Map No 25 Outdoor Leisure Series for the Cotswolds at 2 1/2" to the mile.
Map No 180 Explorer Series for Oxford, Witney and Woodstock at 2 ½" to the mile.

OR
Map No 163 Landranger Series for Cheltenham Area at 1 1/4" to the mile.
Map No 164 Landranger Series for Oxford area at 1 ¼" to the mile.

Waterstones Book Shop, High Street, Witney (next to Woolgate Entrance), Blackwells and Waterstones in Oxford stock these.

Map references for the walks venues consist of two letters (the map area) and six numbers. These can easily be worked out by reading the first two numbers of the reference given along the top or bottom (horizontal) edges of the map (the third map
number represents the number of tenths towards the next map number to the right).
Similarly, read the last three numbers for the vertical map reference from the bottom to the top of the map. Tracing with your finger, you find the meeting point where the two tracing lines intersect.
