Lindsay Fisher writes about two things:
Spotted on our usual Saturday stroll to Cafe Rouge this morning, a hummingbird hawk moth was also enjoying a sunny breakfast on some valerian flowers in Gloucester Place.
The blurry shot shows how fast its wings were beating, never settling to feed.
And a day at the beach:

Low water levels in the Windrush this summer are proving convenient for the breakaway colony of Cogges Manor doves that have set up home by the town bridge. What they make of the water quality is hard to determine!

JC adds: Whatever else we can say about this summer, it seems to have been a good year for hummingbird hawk moths. I have heard reports of, and seen, them since early June. Sue Morton uploaded a short video to YouTube which can be found here.
