Indoor meetings are held on the first Friday of each month from October to May in the Methodist Church, Witney. Please use the rear entrance from Woolgate (Waitrose) car park in Witan Way.

DAWN CHORUS A slow walk of two to three miles to hear the birds wake up and start singing. We hope to hear or see 40 to 50 species.

Montagu’s Devon covers the work of this great naturalist in south west Devon covering the late 1700’s into the early 1800’s – a time of great learning and discovery.

SOUTHILL SOLAR FARM

To see wildflowers, bees and butterflies etc., and learn about community-owned renewable projects.
Meet at the layby on the left side of the B4022 Witney to Charlbury Road shortly after Fawler Mill House on the left.
Come and meet the moths from overnight traps in a private garden in Shilton. We hope to see some spectacular hawk moths.
Refreshments will be served (possibility of a small contribution to the cost)
Numbers limited to 15
Booking essential; priority will be given members who have not been to a moth morning before.

ASTON ROWANT NNR
A walk led by Dr Tim King to learn about the ecology of yellow meadow ants and the plants associated with their mounds. Also diverse chalk downland flora with up to eight orchid species in flower.
Leave the M40 at J6 and join the old A40, travelling south. Turn right right at Christmas Common/Aston Rowant. Go past the NNR and over the M40. The Cowleaze Wood Car Park is about a mile after the motorway.
Join two Club members for a walk of approximately three miles (2-3 hours) to see wild flowers and birds. The terrain is variable and rough so please wear appropriate footwear.
Park in the service road on the south side of the Witney to Burford Road, B4047, just west of the roundabout at the top of Tower Hill.
A walk of two to three hours led by owners John Brimble and Jenny Atkinson (a botanist) to see this steep valley fen and to learn about the Oxfordshire Fens Project to restore the alkaline short-sward fen.
Park at Hinksey Heights golf course car park (free)
A walk of about two hours at North Leigh Common, with Lawrence Bee who has co-written ‘Britain’s Spiders – A Field Guide’. He will use equipment such as a beating tray and a sweep net to find and identify insects and spiders.
Take the A4095 from Witney and turn left to East End and the Roman Villa, then turn next right and the car park to the common is on your right.
