Early Butterflies

Small tortoiseshell in diapause (although it may not have made it out of it...) March 2024.

One of the first signs of spring is to see a butterfly – a brimstone or perhaps a small tortoishell. But where do they come from, and why do they emerge so soon?

Roger Newman (a WOFC member) explained all in a short broadcast on WRFM last Saturday morning.
