First Cricket of the Year

Sue Morton writes:

Each year in early May I watch for the first speckled bush cricket nymphs of the year to appear in my garden.

They usually turn up on Welsh poppy leaves to start off with, and this year was no exception. After a few days of hunting around for them, I found the first one on 8 May, on a Welsh poppy leaf, as usual.  Here’s a photo of it – really tiny, smaller than a greenfly, but with the unmistakable speckles and  huge antennae.
